Today The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined The Queen and members of The Royal Family at the annual Trooping the Colour, to celebrate Her Majesty’s official birthday. Trooping the Colour orginated from traditional preparations for battle and has commemorated the birthday of the sovereign for more than 250 years. In the 18th century, guards from the royal palaces regularly assembled to “troop" colours or flags down the rank, so they could be seen and recognised by the soldiers. In 1748, it was announced this parade would also mark the Sovereign’s official birthday. Trooping the Colour is performed by regiments of the British and Commonwealth armies for The Queen’s birthday parade, allowing them to pay a personal tribute to Her Majesty. Today over 1400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians came together on Horse Guards Parade in London in a great display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare. The parade concludes with a 41-gun salute fired by The King’s Troop, following which The Queen leads members of The Royal Family back to the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch the Royal Air Force flypast display. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex surprised the crowds today by attending the Queen's annual Trooping the Colour celebrations! Meghan is currently on maternity leave with baby Archie, but turned up in support of Her Majesty at the parade, looking gorgeous in a navy blue bespoke Givenchy ensemble, with a matching navy cocktail hat. She accessorised with a peacock blue Givenchy Mini Pocket Quilted Bag and emerald-cut earrings. She wore her hair in an up-do hairstyle and looked radiant as ever in natural makeup. Welcome back, Your Royal Highness! This is Meghan's second ever Trooping the Colour and the first time we've seen her since she and Prince Harry introduced their newborn son to the world in May. The newest member of the royal family was born on Monday 6 May at The Portland Hospital in London, and the proud couple presented him to the public at a photocall in Windsor a few days later. No doubt the rest of the royal family were thrilled to see Meghan on Saturday, and of course, many of them are known to have made the trip to Windsor to visit their new arrival. Other royals to attend the Trooping the Colour event were the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duchess of Cornwall, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and the Countess of Wessex. ♥️😊 #royalfamily #britishroyalfamily #royals #royalwedding #windsor #dukeofsussex #duchessofsussex #princeharry #meghanmarkle #harryandmeghan #dukeofcambridge #duchessofcambridge #princewilliam #katemiddleton #princegeorge #princesscharlotte #princelouis #kensingtonpalace #buckinghampalace #archieharrison #duchessofcornwall #princecharles #princessdiana #diana #like4like #princephilip #queenelizabeth #monarchy
